Aurora is a city in Portage County , Ohio , United States . At the 2000 census , the city had 13,556 residents.

Aurora's geographic coordinates are 41 ° 19 ′ N , 81 ° 21 ′ W (41.319254, −81.355859). In the vicinity are Streetsboro to the south, Hudson to the southwest , the Twinsburg Township to the west, Reminderville and Solon to the northwest , the Bainbridge Township to the north, the Auburn Township to the northeast, the Mantua Township to the east and Shalersville Township to the southeast .
According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 62.4 km², of which 60.1 km² is land and 2.3 km² (= 3.61%) is water.
Demographics
According to the 2000 census, Aurora inhabited 13,556 people. The population density was 225 people per km². There were 5361 housing units at an average of 89 per km². The racial the population was composed of 95.67% White, 2.16% African American, 0.10% Native American, 1.24% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, and 0.13% other ethnic groups; 0.69% were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.59% of the population.
The residents of Aurora were distributed to 5047 households out of which 35.2% had children under the age of 18. 68.9% were married couples living together, 6.5% were single mothers, 22.7% did not form a family, 19.0% were made up of individuals and 7.6% of all households had people aged 65 years or over about that. The average household size was 2.63 and the average family size was 3.02.
The population was divided into 25.7% minors, 4.6% between 18 and 24 years, 27.3% between 25 and 44 years, 26.9% between 45 and 64 years and 15.5% between the ages of 65 and 65 or more. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 women there were 92.9 men. For every 100 women over the age of 18, there were 88.9 men.
The median household income in Aurora was 70,998 US dollars and the median family income reached the amount of 78,876 US dollars. Males had a median income of $ 61,298 and females $ 35,655. Freetime activities
As early as 1887, Giles Pond - now known as Geauga Lake - had amusement and other recreational facilities. The Big Dipper roller coaster operated here for 82 years.
The historically second park in the SeaWorld chain was established in 1970 on the northern edge of the city. It was bought by Six Flags in 2001, along with adjacent Geauga Lake , and became the property of Cedar Fair in 2004 , closing most of the former marine mammal park. Cedar Fair operates the facility as a water park.
