Aurora Borealis is an American death metal band from Waldorf , Maryland that was formed in 1995.

history

The band was formed in 1995 by Ron Vento after separating from his previous band Lestregus Nosferatus. After going to Florida , he met Tony Laureano ( Nile , Dimmu Borgir , Angelcorpse ) there. In 1996 they recorded their first EP Mansions of Eternity together at Morrisound Studios under the direction of Scott Burns . After completing the record, Vento went back to Maryland to work on the second record. In 1998 the band began working on their debut album. Since Laureano was too involved in his other projects, Derek Roddy ( Hate Eternal , Malevolent Creation , Nile) took over his post. Praise the Archaic Lights Embrace was then recorded at The Sound Lab under the direction of Bob Moore . On the next record, Northern Lights , Roddy could be heard again on drums. The recordings for this took place in 2000 in Vento's own Nightsky Studios. The album was released by Diehard Music in Europe , while, like its predecessors, it was released in North America by Vento's own label Nightsky Productions. Since Roddy was too busy with Hate Eternal for the recordings of Time, Unveiled in 2002 , Tim Yeung ( Vital Remains , Hate Eternal) came on as drummer instead . The recordings took place again in the Nightsky Studios; it was also published by Diehard Music and Nightsky Productions.

The recording of Relinquish was finished in 2006 at Nightsky Studios, with Laureano on drums. The album was released this time only with Nightsky Productions. In 2011 the next album Timeline: The Beginning and End of Everything followed, which included Mark Green as the new drummer. The recordings took place as before in the Nightsky Studios; it was published by Nightsky Productions. In 2013 the band recorded the album World Shapers , whereupon Green took over the drums again. The sound carrier was recorded, mixed and mastered in the Nightsky Studios. The album was released in 2014 on Xtreem Music and MDD Records .

style

Metal Hammer's Robert Müller called the group a black metal band in his review of Northern Lights , while Roddy's drumming is reminiscent of his death metal past with Nile, Malevolent Creation and Hate Eternal. In the faster passages of the songs, the band sounds like Marduk . According to Gunnar Sauermann from Metal Hammer, the band on Time, Unveiled play a fast mixture of black and death metal. The use of double bass is just as characteristic as fast-playing guitars and aggressive vocals. In the songs, the playing technique is in the foreground. In a rock-hard interview with Sebastian Schilling, Ron Vento stated that he couldn't do much with Satanism and that is why he did not write any songs about it, although this is a prerequisite for a black metal band. The previous album Timeline: The Beginning and End of Everything is about the creation of the universe , while Worldshapers treats a science fiction story that takes place after the end of the known universe. In the interview, Schilling described the music as classic US death metal with black metal-like vocals.
