Foreign constituency (France)
As a result of the reform of the French constitution in July 2008, foreign constituencies were set up for French people living abroad for the upcoming elections to the National Assembly . This new regulation was first applied in the elections in June 2012 . There are currently 11 constituencies for the French living abroad, each of which has one MP.
Constituencies
The size of the constituencies is determined by the number of French people residing in the respective countries. Due to this regulation, the constituencies differ significantly. While Europe is divided into several constituencies, almost all of Asia and Oceania with parts of Eastern Europe are combined into a single constituency. Yet the number of voters in the constituencies is not evenly distributed. In particular, the first constituency stands out because there are far more French people living in it than in the other constituencies, so that a reallocation appears possible in future elections. Germany and Austria are currently part of the 7th constituency , Switzerland and Liechtenstein together form the 6th constituency .
