history

The place originated in the 13th century at the latest and was first mentioned in 1223 as "Cescouo" (Cescovo). On July 21, 1295 Duke Kasimir von Beuthen confirmed to Albert von Sternberg in Slawentzitz the sale of the village to his father Sceslaus von Sternberg, who was mentioned as Ucescov . On July 9, 1339, Duke Casimir von Cosel approved the Dominican Order to purchase the village of Autischkau.

The place was mentioned as Autischkau in the book Entries describing Silesia in 1784 , belonged to the nunnery in Racibórz and was located in the Principality of Racibórz and had 219 inhabitants, a farm, a Catholic church, a school, 29 farmers, 26 gardeners and two cottagers. The dominion that belonged to the monastery of the virgins in Ratibor was secularized in 1810. In 1858 a new massive school building was built. In 1865 Autischkau consisted of a village and a dominion. At that time the village had two post mills, a Kretscham (restaurant), an Arrende tavern, a butcher's shop, 38 farms, 18 gardeners and 70 cottagers.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 514 eligible voters voted for Upper Silesia to remain with Germany and 134 for membership of Poland. Autischkau remained with the German Empire after the division of Upper Silesia . Until 1945 the place was in the district of Cosel .

In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was then attached to the Silesian Voivodeship and renamed Ucieszków in Poland on March 15, 1947 . The district of Cosel was renamed Powiat Kozielski. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1975 the powiat Kozielski was dissolved. In 1999 the place came to the newly founded Powiat Kędzierzyńsko-Kozielski . On September 30, 2014, the place was also given the official German place name Autischkau .
