The Aviasud Mistral is a two-seater ultralight double-decker from the French manufacturer Aviasud Engineering. What is remarkable about this aircraft are the forward-swept wings and the side-by-side seats. The lower wings are movable and serve as ailerons . The aircraft was later taken over by the Belgian company Aériane together with the Sirocco .

development and construction

The Aviasud Mistral was developed by the Belgian designers Francois Goethals and Bernard d'Otreppe. The prototype made its maiden flight in May 1985 and then went into series production at AviaSud in Fréjus . The first mass-produced specimen had its maiden flight in February 1986. Aviasud built over 200 units. The sample was also manufactured by Ultraleger Industria Aeronáutica Ltda in Brazil .

This unknown microlight was the base for the Mistral

The Mistral is a double decker and consists of a combination of wood and composite materials . The wings are swept forward. The lower wings are movable and serve as ailerons . The tail unit consists of a conventional rudder and a pendulum elevator . The aircraft has a nosewheel landing gear and a BRP-Rotax engine . The Mistral has an enclosed cockpit with two seats arranged side by side, which are positioned in front of the wings.

On May 4, 1987, Nicolas Hulot was the first to fly a Mistral to the North Pole in a microlight .
