Axel Anderberg
Axel Anderberg (born November 27, 1860 in Kristianstad , † March 27, 1937 in Rotebro) was a Swedish architect .
Life
In his early years he mainly built theaters in neo-baroque or art nouveau style. Later buildings were mostly academic institutions that he carried out in neoclassicism .
Anderberg received his education between 1880 and 1884 at the architectural faculty of the Royal Technical University of Stockholm and in the following three years at the Royal Swedish Art Academy. In 1888 he visited Germany , France and Italy . During this time he was particularly interested in theater architecture.
His most important work was the new Royal Swedish National Opera in Stockholm , which replaced the opera house from the Gustavian era. The inauguration took place on September 19, 1898 by King Oskar II . Anderberg also designed the theater buildings in Karlstad (1893), Linköping (1902–1903), Kristianstad (1906) and Norrköping (1908) and the Oscar theater , the operetta theater in Stockholm (1906).
Anderberg built the large complex of the Imperial Natural History Museum (completed in 1916) on the Frescati site in Stockholm and later several scientific institutions in the same area, for example the main building of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences . He was also responsible for adding side wings to the Royal Library in the Östermalm district . Anderberg built the palaeontological institute (1929) and an extension for the Carolina Rediviva for the University of Uppsala . In 1931 his new building for the Stockholm Observatory in the seaside resort of Saltsjöbaden was completed.
St. John's Church in Malmö is one of his buildings .
