Axel Krauße

Axel Krauße (* 1971 in Langenhagen ) is a German theater director and designated director of the Ansbach Theater , which he is to head from the 2020/21 season. Until 2018 he was the director of the room theater in Tübingen .

life and work

Krauße studied history, politics and literature. In the 2007/08 season, he and Christian Schäfer were appointed to the directorship of the Zimmer Theater in Tübingen. The duo's early directional decision to build up a permanent ensemble again at the room theater and to focus the program more on world premieres than on classic productions attracted attention. After Schäfer became director of the Gütersloh Theater in 2013 , Krauße managed the house alone - as artistic director and managing director.

During his time at the Zimmer Theater, Krauße staged numerous pieces, including his own arrangements. In Der tödliche Schlag (2009) he brought his adaptation of a largely forgotten television play by Walter Jens from 1974 to the stage. In 2010 he directed Bernd Kohlhepps' dialect adaptation of Die Räuber (in Schiller's Swabian “mother tongue”). His production of Eugène Ionesco's one-act play The Lessons (2010), in which a professor murdered his student, was relocated to an ancient anatomy classroom . He worked several times with the historian Peter Sindlinger. In Morgen speaks the whole world of me (2013), the two of them processed the rampage in Mühlhausen, which in 2013 was the centenary. Krausses staging of the documentary play Nicky und Willy or How Rainer Maria came to the front, written by him and Sindlinger , which, composed of documentary texts, illuminates the war euphoric mood in the summer of 1914, was nominated for the Monika Bleibtreu Prize of the private theater days in 2015 .

In 2016, Krauße announced that he would end his directorship in mid-2018. On the occasion of his departure, the mayor of Tübingen, Boris Palmer , awarded him the city's Uhland plaque.

At the beginning of 2019 it was announced that Krauße would take over the management of Theater Ansbach for the 2020/21 season .
