Axel Schandorff

Axel Carl Schandorff (born March 3, 1925 in Copenhagen ; † January 28, 2016 ) was a Danish track cyclist .

Axel Schandorff was active as a specialist for short-term disciplines on the track from 1946 to 1953, and as an amateur until 1950 . In 1946 he was runner-up in the amateurs sprint in Zurich and a second time in Amsterdam in 1948 . In 1949 he took third place in the renowned sprint classic Grand Prix de Paris . Nine times he was Danish sprint champion, with the amateurs as well as the professionals .

In 1948 Schandorff started at the Olympic Games in London and won the bronze medal in the sprint, in the time trial he finished fifth.

Schandorff was a trained goldsmith by profession .

Axel Schandorff is the father of the ballet dancer Silja Schandorff .
