Axel Schmidt (born February 1, 1961 ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
Schmidt played in the amateur area at TuS Koblenz and at FV Bad Honnef in the major league. For the FVH he scored a total of 20 goals in the Oberliga Nordrhein 1983/84 . The Bundesliga club Bayer 05 Uerdingen noticed him through his performances and brought him into the team. In the team of coach Karl-Heinz Feldkamp he was in the squad next to the Funkel siblings Friedhelm and Wolfgang , as well as Matthias Herget and Wolfgang Schäfer . Schmidt made his debut on the 2nd match day of the 1984/85 season against Borussia Dortmund . He was substituted on for Peter Loontiens in the 88th minute and the game was won 2-1. Schmidt played his second and last time in the Bundesliga on matchday 32. In the 1: 6 defeat against 1. FC Kaiserslautern , he played for Wolfgang Funkel from the 56th minute of the game. After the season, the works team had finished the season with seventh place, he left Krefeld and moved to the 2nd Bundesliga for MSV Duisburg . He said goodbye by winning the DFB Cup in 1985 . He has a short assignment in the first two rounds. The final was won 2-1 by goals from Horst Feilzer and Wolfgang Schäfer against FC Bayern Munich . The goal scorer Schmidt played 18 games for MSV and scored five goals, making him the top scorer of his team alongside Michael Struckmann and Rudi Decker . An injury forced him to end his football career.
