Axel Schmidt (born February 1, 1961 ) is a former German soccer player .

Career

Schmidt played in the amateur area at TuS Koblenz and at FV Bad Honnef in the major league. For the FVH he scored a total of 20 goals in the Oberliga Nordrhein 1983/84 . The Bundesliga club Bayer 05 Uerdingen noticed him through his performances and brought him into the team. In the team of coach Karl-Heinz Feldkamp he was in the squad next to the Funkel siblings Friedhelm and Wolfgang , as well as Matthias Herget and Wolfgang Schäfer . Schmidt made his debut on the 2nd match day of the 1984/85 season against Borussia Dortmund . He was substituted on for Peter Loontiens in the 88th minute and the game was won 2-1. Schmidt played his second and last time in the Bundesliga on matchday 32. In the 1: 6 defeat against 1. FC Kaiserslautern , he played for Wolfgang Funkel from the 56th minute of the game.
