Bärbel Dieckmann (artist)

Bärbel Dieckmann (* 1961 in Bielefeld ) is a German artist and sculptor . She prefers to use plaster of paris , terracotta , bronze , stone and concrete for her works .

Life

After graduating from high school, she studied visual communication at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and obtained a diploma in illustration and sculpture. She became the assistant to her teacher Professor Richard Hess . Her role models are Marino Marini , Germaine Richier , and Henri Laurens .

From 1991 to 1994 she taught as a lecturer for stonemasons and stone sculptors at the master school in Kaiserslautern. During this time she got her first commission for three large sculptures in front of the Bad Schwalbach district building and moved to Berlin. There she met Waldemar Grzimek and Wieland Förster .

Bärbel Dieckmann is the sister of Jochen Dieckmann . She lives and works in Berlin.

Works

Bärbel Dieckmann's main topic is people . She created numerous portraits, including Charles Darwin , Georg Büchner , his sister Luise Büchner , Justus von Liebig , Christoph Lichtenberg , Ernst Elias Niebergall and the women's rights activist Agnes von Zahn-Harnack .

In addition to her nude figures, she works on various topics from Greek mythology and European religion . A significant part of her work deals with the subject of the Minotaur .
