River course
Bear creek originates in the field of military training area Senne in as Barental named Kastental . The source of the water is located just on the district of Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock , but the Bärenbach continues as a dry valley into the municipality of Augustdorf .
The Bärenbach flows in a south-westerly direction following the flattening of the Senne landscape in front of the Teutoburg Forest and runs exclusively into its brook valley, cut through wooded terrain. After a little more than two kilometers flowing distance the waters on the southern border of the leads Furlbachtals left side in the Furlbach. During its course it overcomes a height difference of 21 meters, resulting in a mean bed gradient of 9.5 ‰.
location
The Bärenbach is located in a water protection area , from which the Bielefeld municipal utilities obtain drinking water from over 30 wells within the Bachtal .
In addition, almost the entire course of the Bärenbach is located within a military restricted area , which means that the Bärental is only sporadic. This fact guarantees that the stream does not guarantee a formal legal protection, but a factual nature protection. The water quality is therefore hardly affected due to the lack of agricultural or industrial discharges.
