The Burgerkapelle Gries is a wind orchestra from Gries in Bozen ( South Tyrol , Italy ). The band has around 100 members and has been organisationally led by chairman Roland Furgler since 1989 and musical director Georg Thaler since 1996 . She is a member of the Association of South Tyrolean Music Bands .

history

The chapel was founded in 1821 when the organist from Gries, Ignaz Dietrich, gathered some music-loving people from Gries around him and with them established the “Gries Music Society”.

With the upswing of the spa town of Gries from the middle of the 19th century, the music society also appeared more and more frequently. From 1868 onwards it was directed by the organist and teacher Kajetan Vill for over six decades. During this time there was also a string orchestra as a separate department of the band. In 1886, a business conduct committee was formed. There were numerous personal overlaps with the Gries fire brigade founded in 1878.

With the elevation of the village of Gries to a market town on 19/20 October 1901 also saw the change of name to the “Gries Burgerkapelle”. After interruptions due to the war, the civil band celebrated its centenary in 1921.

The band was closed in 1939 under pressure from Italian fascism . It was able to be re-established in 1945, after the liberation from Nazi fascism, under chairman Alois Puff . Thanks to donations from the population of Gries, a new costume could be purchased for the band in 1947 , and in 1948 the band joined the newly founded association of South Tyrolean music bands . In the fall of 1965, part of the band made tape recordings .

For the 150th anniversary in 1971, a new composition by Sepp Thaler , Jubelchor , was premiered in the "Haus der Kultur Walter von der Vogelweide".

In 2011 the band celebrated its 190th anniversary with a concert on the Gries Church Day.

In August 2014 the Burgerkapelle Gries performed together with the mezzo-soprano Sabina Willeit at the event Musik am Piburger See in Tyrol , Austria , moderated by Rudi Gamper ( RAI Bozen ) .

In September 2017 they played on the occasion of the Bundesliga match between FC Bayern Munich and FSV Mainz 05 in Munich's Allianz Arena .

The chapel traditionally hosts a Cecilia celebration and a New Year's concert on January 1st, which took place for the 50th time in 2017.
