List of DSV and DMYV driving licenses

BR license of the DSV (the predecessor of the SKS)

DSV driving licenses are non-official certificates of competency for pleasure boat drivers issued by the German Sailing Association (DSV) or the German Motor Yacht Association (DMYV) , with which the owner can prove that he has a level of training determined and tested by the DSV or DMYV. These association driving licenses have no official (legal) significance.

At the end of 2002, the DSV stopped issuing the association driving licenses A, BR, BK, C and R for yachts and dinghies .

Since 1 January 2003, the DSV awards instead of the association's internal driving licenses, official sports boat licenses and recreational vessels notes on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development .

Today only the youngest sailing license and the sports sailing license are issued as association-internal DSV driving licenses .

The DMYV has been awarding the sports boat certificate since 2013.

Former association-internal certificates

The following notes were issued by January 1, 2003:

A-license

The A certificate certifies that the holder has sufficient skills for sailing on inland waters. The minimum age was 14 years. The requirements of the A license corresponded roughly to today's sport boat license inland under sail . The A-license could also be issued for “yachts under sail and under engine”. It also included today's official sport boat license inland (under engine). A paraphrase was (is) possible.

BR license

The BR license was proof of knowledge of sailing within the 12 nautical mile zone ( small coastal voyage ). The designation BR stood for Category B, Revierfahrt . The BR license corresponded roughly to the requirements of today's sport coast ship license under propulsion engine and under sails .

BK certificate

The BK license was intended for a distance of 30 nautical miles from the coast. The minimum age was 16 years. The designation BK stood for category B, coastal travel . The requirements of the BK license corresponded roughly to the Sportseeschifferschein under propulsion engine and under sails .

C-certificate

The C-license was a certificate of sufficient knowledge for driving around the world. The prerequisite was the BK license and an additional 2,000 nautical miles driven. The minimum age was 18 years. The requirements of the C-license corresponded roughly to the sports high seas license for propulsion engines and sails ; however, the C-license exam did not include any requirements for electronic navigation.

R-license

The R license was intended for sailing within the 3 nautical mile zone on the German coast. In terms of requirements, it roughly corresponded to the sports boat license for the lake .

Today's internal association notes

DSV youngest sailing license

The youngest sailing license is an association-internal sailing license of the DSV. It can be acquired up to the age of 14 with the consent of the legal representative. The prerequisite is the German youth swimming badge in bronze.

DSV sports sailing license

According to the provisions of the DSV and the ISAF , participants in a regatta organized by the DSV or ISAF , more precisely the skippers, must also have a sailing license from the national association. It does not replace a driver's license.

DMYV sports boat certificate

The DMYV sports boat certificate is an internal association certificate from the DMYV confirming participation in an instruction course. It is intended for motor boats up to 15 hp and does not replace a driving license.
