Babaef ( called Chnumbaef after another reading ) was an ancient Egyptian prince of the 4th Dynasty during the Old Kingdom . He was probably a son of Duaenre and thus a grandson of King ( Pharaoh ) Chephren . During the reign of Shepseskaf , the last ruler of the 4th dynasty, he held the office of vizier and was thus the highest official after the king.
His grave
Babaef owns the mastaba G 5230 on the western burial ground of the Great Pyramid of Cheops . It seems to have never been decorated, but contained at least thirteen statues and several statuettes of the deceased, some of which were found in full and some in fragments. The statues were made from black granite , rose granite , alabaster and limestone . They are now in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston , the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna . A sarcophagus made of rose granite, which is now in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo , also seems to originally come from here.
