history

Opening of the Rappenau train station

The section from Meckesheim to Bad Rappenau was opened on June 25, 1868, and the connection to the salt works on February 5 . Unlike the neighboring station Bad Wimpfen of Bad Rappenau Station was in the first years of its existence only Rappenau . When the gap between Bad Rappenau and Jagstfeld ( Bad Friedrichshall ) was closed on August 5, 1869, the line, henceforth known as the "Elsenz Valley Railway", was completely completed.

Further development

After the municipality of Rappenau had applied for official recognition of the place as a spa in 1903 , the Rappenau station was officially renamed Bad Rappenau in 1914 . By order of the Baden State Ministry of September 4, 1930, the municipality of Rappenau ( Sinsheim district office ) was renamed Bad Rappenau with effect from October 1, 1930 - around 15 years after the renaming of its station .

Conversion for the Heilbronn light rail

As part of the construction of the Heilbronn Nord Stadtbahn , Bad Rappenau station was rebuilt in 2014. The previously 38 centimeter high platforms were replaced by new 55 centimeter high platforms: From February 3 to March the 140 meter long platform 1, from April to August the then 120 meter long platform 2. From April to August a new one was also built Track 3 was built so that train crossings can take place on the other two tracks while the trains ending here turn. The overhead contact line systems for track 3 were built from mid-August to late autumn. The renovation incurred “station-related costs” of 1.3 million euros, of which the city of Bad Rappenau had to pay 262,000 euros, as well as planning costs of 370,000 euros for the three stations Bad Rappenau, Bad Rappenau Kurpark and Babstadt, the city and district respectively wore half.

The new “Bad Rappenau Kurpark” stop, which is located directly at the Bad Rappenau Kurpark, also went into operation when the tram started.

Reception building

The reception building of the railway station Bad Rappenau is a neoclassical building from the railway construction around the year 1868. Today it houses the STATION GALLERY , in which there is a small flower shop, a branch of Bahnhofsbuchhandlung Schmitt & Hahn , a Customer Center of AOK , a bakery and a small travel center the DB gives.

traffic

Bad Rappenau is located in the tariff area of the Heilbronner Hohenloher Haller Nahverkehr GmbH (HNV) and can be reached with a transitional tariff from the Rhein-Neckar transport association (VRN).

passenger traffic

Bad Rappenau is located on the Elsenz Valley Railway from Heilbronn via Sinsheim to Heidelberg . The regional express RE 2 coming from Mannheim and the S42 coming from Bad Friedrichshall usually cross here .

The railway line was extensively renovated from January 7, 2014 to April 30, 2015. At that time, a rail replacement service (SEV) with buses between Sinsheim or Bad Rappenau and Neckarsulm was set up.

Until the timetable change in December 2014, regional trains on the RB 74 line stopped in Bad Rappenau , which ran every hour between Sinsheim, Bad Rappenau, Bad Wimpfen and Bad Friedrichshall (sometimes further to Heilbronn) until the beginning of January 2014. With the timetable change in December 2014, line S42 of the Heilbronn Stadtbahn between Sinsheim and Bad Rappenau took over these services , initially according to a transition timetable that was coordinated with the SEV's operating times.

Until the beginning of January 2014, the RE 2 regional express trains also ran between Mannheim, Heidelberg, Sinsheim and Heilbronn every two hours via Bad Rappenau, which then mostly crossed here with the RB 74 trains from Bad Friedrichshall. These trains have been running again via Bad Rappenau since spring 2015. At the same time, the entire S42 line went into operation.

Since the timetable change on December 15, 2019, Abellio Baden-Würrtemberg has taken over the Mannheim - Heilbronn railway line, namely the RE10A and RE10B lines.

The lines are operated with class 8 442 electric multiple units (Talent 2.5).

The RE10b line goes through the Elsenz Valley Railway and stops at the following locations: Mannheim Hbf - (Mannheim ARENA / Maimarkt) - Heidelberg Hbf - Neckargemünd - Meckesheim - Sinsheim (Elsenz) Hbf - (Sinsheim Museum / Arena) - (Grombach) - (Babstadt ) - Bad Rappenau - Bad Wimpfen - Bad Friedrichshall Hbf - (Neckarsulm Nord) - Neckarsulm - (Heilbronn Sülmertor) - Heilbronn Hbf.

In the direction of Heilbronn, the RE10b stops on platform 1, in the direction of Mannheim on platform 2.
