List of train stations in Italy |
The Freienfeld train station ( Italian: Stazione di Campo di Trens ) is located on the Brenner Railway in South Tyrol .
location
The Freienfeld train station is located in the Wipptal in the municipality of Freienfeld . It extends there at an altitude of 935 m between the Eisack and an industrial area. The closest villages are just north of the SS 12 Trens , the main town of the municipality, and across the river and the A22 on the other side of the valley, Stilfes .
history
The Freienfeld station was put into operation in 1867 along with the entire section of the Brenner Railway between Innsbruck and Bolzano . In 1928 the facility for goods handling was expanded . In addition, the area along the track between Freienfeld and Sterzing began to be expanded into an extensive military station until the 1930s . During the Second World War , this area was completely destroyed by bombing.
Some structural interventions date back to 1995, during which, among other things, platform roofs and an underpass were built and the reception building was renovated.
Buildings
The reception building designed by Wilhelm von Flattich is very well preserved in its original condition. It presents itself to the station forecourt with a central risalit and a gable roof . It is made of Bressanone granite , the gables have beautifully crafted wooden details. An originally wooden magazine front section was replaced by a brick warehouse in 1950. The reception building has been a listed building since 2004.
function
From an operational point of view, the Freienfeld station has only been a stopping point since 2005 . It is served by regional trains from Trenitalia and SAD , which also operate bus connections to the station.
