List of train stations in Italy |
The Sterzing-Pfitsch train station ( Italian: Stazione di Vipiteno-Val di Vizze ) is located on the Brennerbahn in South Tyrol .
location
Sterzing-Pfitsch train station is located at an altitude of 949 m near the city center of Sterzing in the Wipptal . It is separated from the quickly accessible old town by the Eisack and the SS 12 . Since the municipal border follows the course of the river here, the station is not administratively in Sterzing, but in the area of the neighboring municipality of Pfitsch .
history
Sterzing station was put into operation in 1867 along with the entire section of the Brenner Railway between Innsbruck and Bolzano . Sterzing, which until then had benefited from the stagecoach traffic via the nearby Brenner , initially experienced an economic slump due to the construction of the railway, which was offset over time by the burgeoning tourism.
Since the 1950s, the railway staff - in line with an Italian tradition - has made a contribution to the maintenance and beautification of the area. In 1985 the reception building was renovated, and in 1995 a central platform with partial roofing and underpass was built. In the year 2014, the extension of the station name goes back to the from the previous station Sterzing of Sterzing-Pfitsch station was.
Buildings
Most of the station buildings are in very good condition. The reception building designed by Wilhelm von Flattich is clad with quarry stones made of Brixen granite , while decorative details such as the window frames are made of white marble . The roof has carefully crafted wooden gables . A northern extension fell victim to a fire in 1938 and was replaced by a simple new building in the 1950s. The original inventory also includes a wooden warehouse north of the reception building and - on the opposite side of the tracks - a tower-like water station. The historic buildings of the station have been a listed building since 2004.
function
Sterzing-Pfitsch station is served by regional trains from Trenitalia and SAD , which also operate bus connections to the station.
