The Gemünden (Main) train station is a regional hub in Gemünden am Main in the Main-Spessart district .
history
The station was laid out as Gemünden on the Ludwigs-Westbahn , which went into operation here on October 1, 1854. 1873 was from Elm in Prussia next track Flieden-Gemünden introduced into the station. Gemünden became a joint station of the Prussian State Railways and the Royal Bavarian State Railways . On May 1, 1912, the name was changed to Gemünden (Main) . This should prevent confusion with the Gemünden (Wohra) train station .
Station complex
The station has nine platform tracks: a house platform with continuous track 2 and butt track 1, as well as three island platforms (tracks 4 and 5, 6 and 7, 8 and 9).
The main platform is approached by the Erfurt Railway , occasionally also by the regional railway line ( Bamberg -) Würzburg - Schlüchtern . This stops mainly at track 4, while track 5 is used by the Regional Express Würzburg - Frankfurt .
In the opposite direction, the regional train service platform 6 and the regional express platform 7. Platforms 8 and 9 are only occasionally used by the regional train line Aschaffenburg - Gemünden. Track 1 is also rarely used.
business
Gemünden is in the tariff area of the Verkehrsverbund Mainfranken (VVM) and is now only served by local rail passenger transport.
Long-distance transport
In long-distance passenger rail transport , a few intercity trains stopped until the 2008 timetable change . Until 2006, a pair of intercity trains from Frankfurt to Munich made a stop here from Monday to Friday .
In 2010 the last Sunday Intercity from Stralsund to Würzburg was discontinued. In December 2014 the Saturday IC Rottaler Land followed from Hamburg to Passau . Since then, no long-distance trains have stopped in Gemünden as planned.
From 2012 to 2014, the EuroNight trains Vienna – Hamburg and Vienna – Düsseldorf were divided and combined for post-passenger train traffic in Gemünden .
Regional traffic
In the local rail passenger transport , three lines regularly serve the Gemündener Bahnhof, plus other individual trains:
The regional express line Frankfurt - Würzburg (- Bamberg) ("Main-Spessart-Express") runs every hour on the Main-Spessart-Bahn to Würzburg, every two hours to Bamberg. At night a train from Frankfurt ends in Gemünden. Double -decker railcars of the Bombardier Twindexx Vario type are used.
In addition, there is the regional train line Bamberg - Würzburg - Jossa - Schlüchtern. This also runs every hour to Jossa (every two hours to Schlüchtern). From Gemünden this line runs on the Flieden – Gemünden railway to Jossa - Schlüchtern. Some trains already end and start in Gemünden. Be used Coradia Continental railcars (series 440).
