Rail traffic in Neustadt an der Aisch

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rail traffic in Neustadt an der Aisch is handled via Neustadt (Aisch) train station and Neustadt (Aisch) Mitte station . In addition, the Neustadt (Aisch) Stadt train station existed until 1976 on the Neustadt (Aisch) –Demantsfürth-Uehlfeld railway line, which has now been closed . Both stations in operation today are on the Nuremberg – Würzburg railway line , which is of great importance in German rail traffic. In addition, the Neustadt (Aisch) –Steinach near Rothenburg railway branches off at Neustadt (Aisch) Bahnhof .

history

The Neustadt (Aisch) train station is outside of the city's development.

In 1857 it was initially planned to run the new Nuremberg – Würzburg railway south via Bad Windsheim and Ochsenfurt . This led to a petition from the cities of Neustadt an der Aisch and Kitzingen under the guidance of the lawyer Haupt, which ultimately was the decisive factor for King Ludwig II in choosing the Kitzingen line.

In 1861 construction work began on the Nuremberg – Würzburg line via Neustadt, which was completed in 1865. With the Neustadt (Aisch) station, which opened at the same time, the city was connected to rail traffic for the first time. In 1876 a single-track branch line to Bad Windsheim was opened from there , which was extended to Steinach near Rothenburg ob der Tauber in 1898 . In 1904 another branch line to Uehlfeld was opened, which existed until 1993.

Since Neustadt (Aisch) station is unfavorably outside the city, a more centrally located station was planned. This was opened as Neustadt (Aisch) Mitte on December 10, 2012 with a three-year delay .

Neustadt (Aisch) Bahnhof is the older of the city's two train stations. Due to its function as a junction between the important Nuremberg – Würzburg railway , in the approximate center of which it is located, and the branches branching off here, it has achieved a certain degree of transport importance and is one of the two most important intermediate stations between Nuremberg and Würzburg , along with the Fürth main station .

Transport links

The regional express trains on the Nuremberg – Würzburg line stop every hour . From these there is a connection to the regional trains to Nuremberg and Steinach near Rothenburg ob der Tauber , which are also hourly ; both lines have their starting or end point here.

The RE trains Nuremberg – Würzburg and the RB trains to Nuremberg run under the name Mainfrankenbahn with trains of the 440 series , the trains to Steinach near Rothenburg ob der Tauber run under the name Mittelfrankenbahn with trains of the 648 series .

Until 2014 Neustadt (Aisch) was also served in long-distance traffic. For example, express trains on the Würzburg– Linz route stopped until 1990 , and those on the Frankfurt - Prague route until 1992 . Most recently, only the IC “Rottaler Land” stopped from Hamburg to Passau in Neustadt. When this train was discontinued in December 2014, Neustadt an der Aisch also lost its last long-distance connection, so that now only local trains stop here.

The station has 6 platform tracks on 3 platforms. Track 1 is on the house platform, but apart from individual RB services to and from Nuremberg, it is only used for overhauls. On the central platform of tracks 2 and 3 are the continuous main tracks of the Nuremberg – Würzburg line. Due to the narrow eastern entrance curve into the station, not only freight trains, but also the numerous ICE trains pass the station here at around 100 km / h. On the second central platform are through tracks 4 and 6 as well as head track 5 on the west side. The central platforms are not barrier-free .

In the south of the platform tracks there are 4 more tracks, including 3 head tracks, without a platform. These have meanwhile lost their importance in freight transport , they are only used for operational purposes such as the parking of regional trains.

The Neustadt (Aisch) Mitte stop has been a second stop in the city since 2012 . This is located much more centrally in the city than the "Hauptbahnhof" and, in contrast to this, is also designed to be barrier-free. It is also very important in school traffic , as it is very close to the school center .

Only the hourly regional trains Nuremberg – Neustadt (Aisch) stop at this stop; all other trains pass without stopping.

The station has two side platforms. Both platforms are 170 meters long and 76 cm high.

Connection to the Nuremberg S-Bahn

An integration of the RB Neustadt-Nürnberg in the network of the Nuremberg S-Bahn was discussed for a long time. Due to the congestion on the Nuremberg – Würzburg railway line, however, it is currently not possible to increase the frequency of this line without a three-track expansion or a new route for long-distance traffic and has therefore been postponed for financial reasons. From December 2021, today's regional train traffic is to run as the new S6 line of the Nuremberg S-Bahn.
