The Leipziger Messe station (until 1996: Station Neuwiederitzsch ) is a transit station in the north of the city of Leipzig . It is the scheduled stop of regional traffic (since the end of 2013 the S-Bahn Central Germany ) and serves to connect the Leipzig exhibition center , the commercial areas and the districts of Wiederitzsch and Seehausen . For decades, the station was called Neuwiederitzsch, it was given its current name in 1996 in connection with the renovation, during which the tourist facilities were moved 500 meters to the south at the level of the new tram line to the new exhibition center .

investment

The original Neuwieditzsch station was on the Trebnitz – Leipzig line (route kilometers 74.6). In the station two connecting lines branched off from the north: on the one hand the "Holzmüller curve" to the southwest to Wiederitzsch station on the western Leipzig Güterring and a freight train track parallel to the main line to Leipzig-Mockau station and on to the eastern part of the Leipziger Güterring.

After the renovation of the facilities in 1996, the station is located at route kilometer 75.0 on the Trebnitz – Leipzig Hbf line (route number 6411). In the station area, the two routes mentioned to Wiederitzsch (route number 6370) and to Leipzig-Mockau (6388) branch off. The line 6403 Magdeburg - Halle (Saale) Hbf - Wiederitzsch - Leipzig Messe , which previously ran from Wiederitzsch station to Leipzig Berliner Bf station without any further connection, now ends in the station ( station section Leipzig Messe Süd) and joins the line in the south Leipzig Central Station

The Eltersdorf – Leipzig high-speed line crosses the Trebnitz – Leipzig line north of the platforms and then runs between its main line and the line to Leipzig-Mockau. However, it is not operationally linked to the other routes in the area of Leipzig Messe station. The tourist access point on the high-speed line is a separate operating point, Leipzig Messe Hp . Two island platforms with four platform tracks are parallel to each other on the tracks of the Trebnitz – Leipzig line and those of the high-speed line. They are served in line operation.

At the north end of the platform on the Trebnitz – Leipzig line there is a single-track sweeping system . At the north head there is a connection to a former concrete plant. The site is used by a recycling company.

The tram route to the new exhibition center crosses under the railway systems across the new tourist facilities. Stairs and elevators connect the platforms of both modes of transport directly with one another.

One of the five ETCS route centers (Radio Block Center, RBC) for the new routes of the German Unity Transport Project No. 8 is located in the area of the train station .

history

Neuwiederitzsch station was opened on January 1, 1908.

The newly built travel facilities were built in connection with the new construction of the Leipzig Exhibition Center and opened on March 16, 1996. First there was an island platform on the existing line towards Bitterfeld, it replaced the previous ones located around 500 meters to the north, which were then demolished. As part of this renovation, the previous electromechanical signal box on the north head was replaced by a GS II DR track diagram signal box using the previous building .

The facilities were expanded as part of the German Unity Transport Project No. 8.2 . So between 2001 and 2003 the new line section Leipzig Hauptbahnhof - Leipzig Messe - Leipzig / Halle Airport - Gröbers (- Halle (Saale) Hauptbahnhof) was built. Another island platform was built with tracks 3 and 4. During this renovation, the four tracks between Neuwiederitzsch and Leipzig Berliner Bahnhof were reallocated. The two eastern tracks, which run through Leipzig-Mockau station and previously belonged to route 6411 (Trebnitz-Leipzig) , have since formed the end of high-speed route 5919 from Eltersdorf , the two western tracks, previously route 6403 , now form route 6411. In this context, the station received an electronic interlocking of the Lorenz L90 design.

From March 16, 1996, the station was renamed Neuwiederitzsch-Leipziger Messe , which was changed again to Leipzig Neue Messe on December 14, 2003 . The current name Leipzig Messe has been in effect since October 10, 2008.

Initially, they condensed the hourly regional trains to Wittenberg and Dessau to Bitterfeld, and only to Delitzsch at the weekend. In December 2015, all regional trains between Bitterfeld and Leipzig were included in the Central German S-Bahn system. The high-speed line towards Erfurt has been used by regional traffic since the first partial commissioning, initially to Leipzig-Halle Airport, since 2003 as RE 5 to Halle (S) Hbf. In December 2013, this connection also went on the S-Bahn as S5 and S5X Central Germany over.
