The Leun / Braunfels Bahnhof is a landmarked station in the district Lahnbahnhof the central Hessian town of Leun . It is located in the tariff area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and is located on the Lahntalbahn . Immediately to the south-east of the station building was the terminal station of the Braunfels Ernstbahn to Philippstein , of which only a few remains are visible. It was in operation from 1875 to 1962.

history

The station was opened under the name Braunfels (Lahn) on January 10, 1863 with the completion of the third construction phase of the Lahn Valley Railway.

In September 2010, the station was modernized and downgraded from the station to the stop. The old central platform was removed and a new side platform with a pedestrian overpass was built. The new platform was built barrier-free .

On December 7, 2012, the building was sold to a Dutch bidder at an auction in Cologne for 34,000 euros.

building

The station building is located in the Lahnbahnhof district of Leun in Burgsolmser Strasse near the old Leuner Bridge. The classicist building was designed by Heinrich Velde and is similar to the station buildings of Weilburg and Diez, which are also based on his designs.

It is a seven-axis plastered eaves building with tower-like raised side projections . These are arranged at the gable opposite the transverse structure. While the western side elevation has four vertically graduated window axes, the eastern one has only one window axis, with a further side building being added later.

Ernstbahn

The Ernstbahn station was south of the state railway tracks at the eastern end of the station. The ore trains were unloaded directly into the wagons of the state railroad via a lintel, and there were several tracks there, which are now removed. The wall of the lintel is still there. The narrow-gauge station had three tracks. Immediately afterwards Burgsolmser Strasse was crossed, and there, on the other side of the street, was the platform for the passenger trains opposite the state railway building. Passenger traffic was stopped in 1930.

Connection

train

The station is served every hour by regional trains on the Limburg (Lahn) - Weilburg - Wetzlar - Gießen route (sometimes further to Alsfeld / Fulda ). The operator until December 2011 was Deutsche Bahn . Since the 2011/2012 timetable change on December 11, 2011, the RB services on this section of the Lahntalbahn have been carried out by Hessische Landesbahn GmbH . Alstom Coradia Lint 41 (DB class 648) railcars are used for this . The DB Regional Express trains (RE 25) pass through the station without stopping. For the RE services, railcars of the type Alstom Coradia Lint 27 and Lint 41 (series 640 and 648) as well as Bombardier Talent (series 643) are used. The cities of Limburg, Weilburg, Wetzlar and Gießen can be reached from here without changing trains.
