The station Mainz-Gonsenheim is the station of the district Gonsenheim the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital Mainz , located at the Alzey-Mainz railway . With a few exceptions, only regional trains stop here .
Geographical location
Mainz-Gonsenheim train station is located on the southern edge of the eponymous town, close to the Kisselberg industrial area and Münchfeld .
history
On December 18, 1871, the Hessian Ludwig Railway (HLB) opened the Alzey – Mainz line. This accelerated the expansion of Gonsenheim. The station was initially called Gonsenheim . On July 10, 1938, it was renamed Mainz-Gonsenheim .
For timetable change 2014/2015 in December 2014, took vlexx GmbH transport services on the route Mainz - Alzey by DB Regio . Before the change of operator, two Regional Express trains usually crossed in Gonsenheim , but without a stop for passengers. Since then, the train crossings have usually taken place in Nieder-Olm .

During the rush hour on working days , individual trains beyond Mainz Hbf are connected to Frankfurt am Main . This means that there are direct connections from Gonsenheim to and from Frankfurt am Main Airport .
On weekends and public holidays in the summer half-year, the Elsass-Express also stops on its journey from Mainz to Wissembourg in Mainz-Gonsenheim.

bus
Mainz-Gonsenheim train station is the only train station in Mainz that is not directly connected to the Mainz local transport network. At the Gonsenheim / Bahnhof bus stop, which is 160 meters away on the main street , only the night bus route 91 and any required rail replacement service (SEV) stopped until the timetable change in December 2019 . Since then, bus line 78 has served the stop every 30 minutes, creating a direct connection to Mainz city center.
