The Rüsselsheim station is a through station at kilometer 12.2 of the Mainbahn from Mainz to Frankfurt am Main in Rüsselsheim am Main . It is assigned to station category 3 . The station is an S and regional train station in the tariff area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV). In addition to it, there is also the Rüsselsheim Opelwerk S-Bahn station in Rüsselsheim .
history
The station was opened on January 3, 1863 together with the Mainbahn from Mainz to Frankfurt . In 1904 the station was equipped with exit signals .
When an S-Bahn was leaving the station on February 2, 1990, the worst railway accident to date in the Rhine-Main area occurred . The outgoing S-Bahn from Wiesbaden collided with a S-Bahn arriving from Frankfurt am Main . 17 people died and 145 were seriously injured.

Rüsselsheim is a station on the Rhein-Main S-Bahn . The S-Bahn lines S8 and S9 stop here. These connect Rüsselsheim with Wiesbaden , Mainz , Kelsterbach , Frankfurt , Offenbach , Mühlheim and Hanau every quarter of an hour. The S8 runs via Mainz main station to Wiesbaden, while the S9 runs over the Hochheim railway bridge to Mainz-Kastel and on to Wiesbaden main station .
The regional express trains on the routes Koblenz Hbf – Frankfurt Hbf and Saarbrücken Hbf – Frankfurt Hbf also stop at Rüsselsheim station every two hours, which results in an hourly service to Mainz Hbf. During rush hour there are individual RB connections to Idar-Oberstein or Bingen Hbf , as well as from Kirchheimbolanden or Alzey in the morning and to Alzey in the afternoon.

The city bus routes 6, 11, 31, 32, 41, 42, 51 and 52 as well as the regional bus route 1 go to Flörsheim train station and two AST bus routes (70 and 71). The bus lines 61, 22, 24, 28, 72 and 67 stop at the bus stop Rüsselsheim Bahnhof Südseite .
