The Mannheim ARENA / Maimarkt traffic station , which was completed on December 10, 2011, replaced the Mannheim marshalling yard Pbf stop , as it was no longer sufficient for the traffic peaks at events in the arena in terms of safety and capacity. The new building was part of the expansion of the RheinNeckar S-Bahn and was planned with the name Mannheim Sport- und Messepark . The reasons for the new building were the poor condition of the old platforms and the construction of the multifunctional hall SAP Arena , which is about 500 meters or a five-minute walk away. The station is served by regional trains and S-Bahn trains operated by Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) , as well as buses and trains operated by Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH (RNV) .
Investments
Mannheim ARENA / Maimarkt station has three platform tracks on a side platform and an island platform , of which only tracks 1 and 2 are used in regular traffic. All platforms are barrier-free , the island platform can only be reached via a pedestrian underpass , which is equipped with two elevators .
The station is located directly at the Mannheim marshalling yard , on its northern side.
Connection to local public transport
Directly north of the railway station is the Wendeschleife and the final stop of the tram line 6 / 6A as well as the stop of the bus lines 45 and 50 and the night bus line 6. These stops are called "SAP Arena S-Bahnhof".
