The Nijmegen Lent Station is a railway station in the city of Nijmegen in the south of the province of Gelderland , which at the railroad Arnhem-Nijmegen is. It is located in the newest district of Nijmegen called Waalsprong . Since the mid- 1990s, a new, modern residential area has been built there as part of the VINEX program, in which hundreds of apartments are built every year.

history

The Former Halt (2009)

After the Arnhem – Nijmegen railway was opened in 1879, the village of Lent received a stop three years later. A station building was first erected in 1914. But the station did not prove to be particularly successful. On the one hand, there was a cheaper alternative with the ferry to the center and on the other hand, with the construction of the Waal Bridge, road traffic became increasingly attractive. Therefore, the station was closed on May 15, 1934.

When the Dutch army blew up the railway bridge and the Waal bridge on May 10, 1940 after the German invasion , the station was meanwhile used as the terminus on the line to Arnhem .

After the railway bridge was reopened on November 12, 1940, operations were stopped again. In the further course of the Second World War , the Nederlandse Spoorwegen reopened the station when the railway bridge was destroyed again.

The breakpoint was closed again on August 1, 1945 and finally demolished in 1960. With the construction of the new Waalsprong residential area, the need for a connection to the city center and the surrounding area increased and a provisional train station was built in 2002. On July 25, 2013, it was connected to the rail network.

The official opening, which was also the councilor of the municipality of Nijmegen, Henk Beerten and Jan van der Meer, and the director of the railway infrastructure company ProRail , Jan Mulder, took part, was held on August 30, 2013.
