The Trento train station ( Stazione di Trento in Italian ) is the second most important train station in the Trentino-Alto Adige region in Italy with 5 million passengers a year after Bolzano . Trento , the capital of Trentino , is an important traffic junction on the north-south axis of the Brenner Railway , which connects Innsbruck with Verona . In addition, the Trento – Venice line begins at the Trento train station, which means that it functions as a separation station . The terminus of the narrow-gauge railway Trento – Mezzana is also located on the northern edge of the station .

history
In 1859 the route of the Brenner Railway from Verona through the Adige Valley to Bolzano was put into operation. From 1867 the route between Bolzano and Innsbruck through the Eisack and Wipp valleys could also be used. In 1910 the Trento – Venice railway finally followed .
Buildings
During the fascist era , Angiolo Mazzoni oversaw the redesign of the reception building, which was re-inaugurated in 1936. Mazzoni was also responsible for other structural adaptations and extensions in Trento. The reception building suffered severe damage from Allied air raids during World War II , which, however, was quickly removed. From 1946 to 1949 it was restored and rebuilt. In 1950 the interior was enriched with mosaics by Cesarina Seppi , which depict various professions and handicrafts. In the 2000s, the station was taken over by the operator Centostazioni .

From an operational point of view, Trento station is a separation station between the Brenner Railway and the Trento – Venice railway line . Here hold international Euro City - distance trains that Germany , Austria and Italy together. There are fast connections to Rome and Milan via the high-speed trains Frecciargento and Frecciarossa . Trento train station is of great importance as a full node in the regional cycle timetable . Local rail transport is operated by trains from Trenitalia and Trentino Trasporti, the bus connections to the station.
