Railway stations in Baden-Württemberg |
The station Walldürn is a train station in the Württemberg Baden- city Walldürn . Today it has three platform tracks , belongs to station category 6 of Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) and is located in the network area of the Rhein-Neckar transport association (VRN). The station forms the operating center of the Madonnenlandbahn and was the starting point for the branch line to Hardheim between 1911 and 1999 .
history
The station was Wallduern with the stretch Seckach -Walldürn of as Madonnenlandbahn designated railway Seckach-Miltenberg opened 1887th Two years later, the section Walldürn - Baden / Bavarian border - Amorbach was connected to the Bavarian section Amorbach - Miltenberg West, which had been completed in 1880 . The builders of the route were the Grand Ducal Baden State Railways and the Royal Bavarian State Railways .
On December 23, 1911, operations began on the 9.7 km long, single-track branch line Walldürn – Hardheim . Walldürn station thus became a small railway junction in Baden. However, passenger traffic on this route was stopped on May 23, 1954. The freight between Walldürn and Hardheim was still maintained before the branch line was completely shut down on 31 October 1999 and subsequently degraded, making Wallduern lost its importance as a railway junction.
In the autumn of 2007, after several months of line closure by the Westfrankenbahn , which operates the traffic here, the Seckach – Miltenberg line was switched to train control . A loading track has been set up at Walldürn train station for timber transports, which are currently being loaded in Miltenberg .

Track systems
The Walldürn train station still has quite extensive track systems - despite the closure of the branch line to Hardheim. A total of three platform tracks are available for passenger traffic on the Madonnenlandbahn , with the former track 1 on the house platform being dismantled to a butt track and only used for regional trains that begin and end here towards Buchen (Odw.) / Bödigheim / Seckach . Most passenger traffic is handled on tracks 2 and 3 on the central platform. Trains in the direction of Buchen / Seckach mostly use platform 2, trains in the direction of Amorbach / Miltenberg use platform 3. In addition to platform 3, there are two platforms without a platform, which occasionally serve as stabling for freight and regional trains. In addition to Amorbach and Bödigheim, almost all train crossings on the Madonnenlandbahn take place in Walldürn station.
Platforms
In October 2018, the construction of a new, 55 centimeter high central platform was completed, which enables completely barrier-free access to the regional trains. The costs amounted to around 620,000 euros.
traffic
As a rule, there is at least one train in each direction every hour on weekdays. In the rush hour there are additional reinforcement trains, which are usually connected from Miltenberg to Aschaffenburg via the Aschaffenburg – Miltenberg railway . However, there is only a uniform interval schedule on weekends , when the service runs every two hours. Used diesel multiple units of the 628 series . Passenger traffic is carried out by the DB subsidiary Westfrankenbahn .
Station forecourt
The station forecourt of the Walldürner station was renamed by the city of Walldürn in 2008 in Karl-Heinz-Joseph-Platz , after the SPD politician Karl-Heinz Joseph (1954-2007). There are a few bus stops on the forecourt that are served by regional bus routes. These connect the station with the surrounding towns, villages and communities.
