On December 1, 1874, the Wilischthal station was built on the standard gauge Annaberg – Flöha railway line, which had already been opened in 1866 . With the opening of the Wilischthal – Thum narrow-gauge railway in 1886, the narrow-gauge section of the current gauge changing station was also inaugurated. The existing station building of the Zschopautalbahn was extended by an extension. A stand-alone engine shed, a coal shed with a lounge and an adjoining water station, with a water crane extending approximately four meters, were newly built . Furthermore, a loading ramp for narrow-gauge vehicles and a trolley pit built in 1887 were built , which was converted in 1913 for the use of trolleys . From 1906, the locomotive shed was only used for car repairs in winter. Wilischthal station had a station building, farm buildings, goods shed, locomotive shed with coal shed and water station, a reloading hall, a loading platform, three switchman's booths, a superstructure material shed, a free access, three car bodies and an equipment transfer ramp. The track system consisted of nine standard-gauge and eleven narrow-gauge tracks. In 1934, the separate narrow-gauge heating house was torn down. The entertainment of the narrow-gauge locomotives has since taken place in Thum station .

With the discontinuation of the narrow-gauge Wilischthalbahn on May 28, 1972, Wilischthal station lost its importance as a transfer station for passenger traffic. At that time, the locomotive and coal sheds were no longer there. The tracks of the narrow-gauge railway were gradually dismantled by 1976 from Thum to the siding of the Wilischthal paper mill. Only the connection to the paper mill was still served from Wilischthal with shunting trips and narrow-gauge residual goods trips until 1992. In contrast to Schönfeld-Wiesa station , however, the siding was not changed to standard gauge. In December 1991, special trips with an IV K , a baggage car and a passenger coach took place on the siding for the last time .

The freight shed was demolished in 1989, and freight traffic in the station ended in 1992. In connection with the route renovation in 2007, the Wilischthal station was dismantled to the stop . Since then, only the through track has remained on the area of the former train station. In addition to the disused reception building with an attached signal box, a farm building and a switch post are still present on high-rise buildings. Remnants of track can still be found in the former narrow-gauge section.

In the 2017 annual timetable, Wilischthal is served by the trains on the RB 80 line ( Chemnitz - Annaberg-Buchholz - Cranzahl ) of the Erzgebirge Railway every hour, with the trains only stopping when required.
