The railway line Bruck an der Mur – Leoben , opened on September 1, 1868 by the Südbahngesellschaft , is a main line in Styria in Austria . It is part of the core network of ÖBB Infrastruktur AG .

As part of the long-distance connection Vienna - Klagenfurt - Villach (- Lienz or - Venice), the route is one of the most important railways in Austria. The route is currently operated by Railjets (or an IC train on the route Vienna Hbf - Lienz) every two hours.

The S8 Unzmarkt - Leoben - Bruck an der Mur of the S-Bahn Styria also runs on the Bruck an der Mur – Leoben railway line.

The route is also used by InterCity and EuroCity trains on the Graz - Salzburg (- Germany) and Innsbruck / Zurich routes.

Until 1998, the St. Michael - Leoben wing of the Rudolfsbahn ran through the Annabergtunnel via the Leoben- Hinterberg train station and, after bypassing the Häuselberg, via Leoben- Göss to the Leoben main station . Since then, the 5,460 m long Galgenberg tunnel has replaced most of this stretch up to the Annaberg tunnel . The section junction Leoben 2 - Leoben Göss was permanently closed on December 9, 2012 and is only used for the parking of temporarily unneeded freight wagons.
