history
Opening date | Route section |
---|---|
5th October 1982 | Castellbisbal / El Papiol – Mollet |
The double-track railway was put into operation in 1982, mainly as a freight bypass route for Barcelona . Platforms in Rubí , Sant Cugat and Cerdanyola Universitat have already been built on the new line , but no passenger traffic has been added. The era of passenger transport only began 23 years later with the establishment of the new C-7 half-ring line for Rodalies Barcelona .
With the construction of the new standard-gauge high-speed line from France to Barcelona in 2010, a line track between Montmeló and El Papiol was converted to a three- rail track (normal or Iberian broad gauge). Continuous train operations between France and the port of Barcelona have been possible since then thanks to further new lines being built in the greater Barcelona area .
Current train traffic
The entire route is currently used by the R8 line between Martorell and Granollers Center every hour, the original connection with downtown Barcelona no longer exists. The Cerdanyola Universitat station is also the terminus of the short line R7, which connects to the Sant Andreu Arenal station in northeast Barcelona.
Others
You can change to other Rodalias lines in Castelbisbal, Cerdanyola Universitat and Mollet - Sant Fost. In San Cugat del Vallés you can change to the FGC . However, the walk to the FGC station Volpelleres is 800 meters. The prepared stops Baricentro and Santa Perpètua Can Falguera exist between Cerdanyola Universitat and Mollet - Sant Fost, but they never went into operation.
