The Como – Varese line is a former railway line in Lombardy operated by the Ferrovie Nord Milano railway company.
history
The line was built from 1885 to 1886 at the request of the Province of Como by the Società Anonima delle Ferrovie del Ticino (SFT) and taken over by Ferrovie Nord Milano in 1888 . In Malnate it emptied into the Saronno – Laveno railway line . The route was unofficially referred to as Traversata ("cross line").
An imposing steel bridge over the Olona valley was built on the route near Malnate ; it was replaced in 1928 by today's concrete arch bridge.
1929 also trains was Milan - Como route traveled part Camerlata-Grandate expanded double track. In 1948 the line was electrified.
On July 31, 1966, the Grandate - Malnate section was closed and dismantled due to low traffic.
