The Zwolle – Kampen railway line , also known as Kamperlijntje (Kleine Kamperlinie), is a twelve kilometer long railway line between Zwolle and Kampen without stops. It is part of the Utrecht – Kampen railway (Centraalspoorweg) and is operated by the Nederlandse Spoorwegen . From 2012 it will be electrified so that it can be served by trams .

history

The route was originally laid out as part of the Centraalspoorweg from Utrecht to Kampen via Amersfoort and Zwolle. The section Utrecht – Amersfoort– Hattem was opened in 1863, a year later the Hattem – Zwolle connection with the bridge over the IJssel . The line between Zwolle and Kampen could not be put into operation until 1865, because the Mastenbroekerpolder was full of water.

The costs were borne by the NCS, a private railway that later became part of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen, and the municipality of Kampen. The contribution from the municipality of Kampen was around 300,000 guilders . This high amount covered about half of the total investment, but Kampen received the promise that all trains from Utrecht to Kampen would run through. Since the direction of travel had to be changed due to the layout of the train station in Zwolle (“ headache ”), the line was split into two parts: Kampen – Zwolle and Zwolle – Utrecht. In 1930 around 50 trains ran daily between Kampen and Zwolle. This separation became final with the electrification of the Utrecht – Zwolle line, while the line to Kampen was served by diesel locomotives .

Stops

The train leaves from track 1 at Zwolle station. In Kampen station, it stops at the old station building on a semi-covered platform. The second platform, as well as the historic station hall, is no longer used. The train used to stop at the Zwolle Veerallee and Mastenbroek stops, which were closed in 1970 and 1933 respectively. The journey time for the twelve-kilometer route is around ten minutes.

future

There is a lot of discussion about the future of the Kamperlijntje. Since the school for journalism and the art academy in Kampen closed, the line is no longer used as much by students. When the Hanzelijn , an intercity line between Lelystad and Zwolle with a Kampen Zuid train station , opens on December 9, 2012, the number of passengers may decrease even further. The municipality of Zwolle wants to add two stops to the line: Zwolle Voorsterpoort station on an industrial site and Zwolle Stadshagen station in a new residential area. There is also talk of a second stop in Kampen, Kampen Oosterholt , in a new building district near IJsselmuiden . The connection should then be used with light rail or trams. A 20-minute cycle is aimed for. The contract with the Nederlandse Spoorwegen, the Dutch state railways, expires on December 8, 2012. We are currently looking for a new operator.
