Baldwin, the safe breaker (original title: Faites sauter la banque! ) Is a French comedy film from 1964 with Louis de Funès in the leading role.
action
Victor Garnier is the owner of a hunting and fishing supplies store. He leads a contemplative petty bourgeois life until, on the advice of the director of his bank, he invests all of the family's savings in stocks. When the securities are worthless shortly afterwards, Garnier feels betrayed by the bank director, especially since he seems to lead a luxurious life.
Garnier wants his money back. Together with his wife and children, he digs a tunnel to the bank building opposite to clear the lockers there. At first, he doesn't like the fact that his eldest daughter falls in love with one of the bank employees. After overcoming a number of complications, they reach the vault instead of the locker area. The bank employee in love, who became an accomplice against his will, bricked up the breakthrough on the bank side again. However, the blasting of the tunnel, which is intended to cover all further tracks, initially fails.
Now it turns out that the bank director had already used the gold bars in the vault. To cover up his theft, he left gold-coated lead bars behind. In order not to be betrayed by Garnier, who has nothing left to lose, the bank director promises to get back the lost money of the Garnier by means of renewed stock market speculation. The film ends with a delayed explosion in the tunnel.
Reviews
“With his typically lively wit, Louis de Funès shows a funny provincial farce. A film that has a lot to say about the country, the people and French humor. "
"Partly hearty comical Louis de Funès film."
“Ordinary, harmless swaying with all sorts of cheerful incidents. More for children from 12 years. "
