The Ballast Nedam NV- is a Dutch construction company and is active in many areas of the construction industry. BN is well known beyond the Netherlands, particularly in the field of hydraulic engineering , traffic engineering and offshore structures.
history
The founder of Ned. Aannemingsmaatschappij (short: Nedam) was already involved in the construction of the Peace Palace (today the seat of the International Court of Justice ). The Amsterdamsche Ballast Maatschappij , which has existed since 1877, was u. a. involved in the construction of the final dike . In 1969 these two traditional companies merged.
More internationally known projects the company has worked on include:
- the Oosterschelde storm surge barrier (1986) in the Dutch Delta Works ;
- the King Fahd Causeway (1986), the bridge and dam connection between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain ;
- the Amsterdam Arena (1996);
- the Confederation Bridge (1997) between the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island ;
- the Storebæltsbroen (West Bridge) (1998) over the Great Belt ;
- Siemens Gamesa site in Cuxhaven (2017; together with sister company Heitkamp Ingenieur- und Kraftwerkbau ).
The shares were traded on NYSE Euronext in Amsterdam until 2016 and were included in the AScX index. After financial problems, BN was taken over by a Turkish company in 2015.
