Location of Ballern in Saarland

Ballern is one of 17 districts of the district town of Merzig in the Merzig-Wadern district ( Saarland ) and includes the districts of Ballern, Rech and Ripplingen. Ballern was an independent municipality until the end of 1973.

history

Ballern was first mentioned in a document as "Baldringen" in the first half of the 11th century. In 2018, three to four mine huts could be excavated in Rech. Century. Some ceramic finds could belong to the 10th century. Right first appears in the sources in 920.

As part of the Saarland regional and administrative reform , the previously independent municipality of Ballern was assigned to the city of Merzig on January 1, 1974.
