Banliyö Trenleri

Banliyö Trenleri is the name of several S-Bahn -like suburban railway systems in Turkey . They are comparable to the Spanish Cercanías lines. The word comes from the French word for "suburb", " banlieue ". The routes are operated by the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) . Banliyö-Trenleri are in Istanbul , Ankara , Izmir and Adapazarı . A line in Gaziantep is under construction.

Istanbul

The Banliyö Trenleri in Istanbul run on both sides of the Bosphorus along the Marmara Sea to the west and east. The starting points are the Istanbul city center train stations Sirkeci on the 30 km long western branch and Haydarpaşa on the 44 km long eastern branch. As part of the Marmaray project, both lines were connected with each other, with Sirkeci station being tunnelled, while Haydarpaşa station was bypassed to the northeast and closed.

Ankara

The line operated in Ankara leads from the suburb of Sincan via the main train station to the Kayaş station in the Mamak district in the east of Ankara. A total of 28 stations are served on the line. An extension from Sincan to Ayas is being planned. The system is around 35 km long.

İzmir

On August 30, 2010, the two-line S-Bahn called İzban was put into operation. Line 1 runs from Alsancak Central Station via Halkapınar and the airport to Torbalı. This line is around 50 km long. Line 2 runs from the main station in a northbound direction via Halkapınar, Karşıyaka , Çiğli and Menemen to Aliağa . A total of 22 stations are served on this line over 56 km.

The network is around 106 km long. There are also regional trains from / to Ödemiş, Tire, Söke, Aydın, Nazilli, Manisa and Denizli. In the final stage, the cities of Selçuk and Bergama will also be connected with the S-Bahn.

Electric multiple units mainly manufactured in France ( Alstom ) are used. Modern Hyundai railcars are now also in use in Ankara and Istanbul. These are produced in Adapazarı (Turkey). In the Izmir area u. a. Vehicles from the Spanish company CAF .

history

The first S-Bahn line in Turkey was set up in Istanbul:
The line from Küçükçekmece to Yedikule was opened on January 4, 1871, the continuation from Küçükçekmece to Halkalı followed on April 22, 1872. On July 27, 1872 the station was opened Reached Sirkeci in the east of the European section. The Asian branch was built between 1872 and 1873.

In the meantime, all lines have been modernized, electrified and equipped with signals. In the Izmir area, the entire old infrastructure was torn down and replaced with new stations, tracks, etc.
