Halkapınar is a city and a district in the Turkish province of Konya . Since a regional reform in 2014 , the municipality ( Belediye ) is congruent with the district (İlçe). All previous villages ( köy ) are now districts ( Mahalle ) of the municipality. The city is located about 160 kilometers southeast of the provincial capital Konya .

The district is located in the extreme southeast of the province. It borders on Ereğli in the northwest, Niğde Province in the northeast, Mersin Province in the southeast and Karaman Province in the southwest . The place is connected to Ereğli by a country road. In the south of the district is the northern slope of the Bolkar Dağları Mountains . These include the elevations Geyik Dağı with 3107 meters, Meydan Tepesi with 3132 meters, Kartal Tepesi with 2998 meters and Aydos Dağı with 3430 meters. The river İvriz Suyu rises in the west and is dammed together with the Aydınkent Çayı , which comes from the east, west of Halkapınar to form İvriz Barajı .
