Barbara Makowska (born August 13, 1967 in Sosnowiec ) is a former Polish volleyball player and today's coach .

Career

Barbara Makowska played with Płomień Milowice in her hometown of Sosnowiec until 1991 and was Polish runner-up here in 1989. Then she moved to league competitor BKS Stal Bielsko-Biała and was twice runner-up here in 1992 and 1994. In 1994 Barbara Makowska moved to Germany to join the Bundesliga club Schweriner SC , with whom she became German champion in 1995 and 1998 and vice- champion in 1997. In 1998 she moved to the league competitor Dresdner SC . Here Makowska won the "double" of championship and cup victory in 1999. In her last season in 2001/02 she was again German cup winner and runner- up with Dresden . The middle blocker was almost continuously represented in the rankings of German volleyball in her Bundesliga time . In the 2007 anniversary issue of volleyball magazine, she was voted the second best block player in the German league of the last 20 years behind Christina Schultz .

Barbara Makowska played in the Polish national team between 1987 and 1995. During this time she made 236 international matches and took part in four European championships.

Since the end of her active career in 2002, Barbara Makowska has been working in the coaching staff of Dresdner SC. She looks after youth teams and is the trainer of the second division youth team VCO Dresden.
