Barbara Wendelken

Barbara Ute Wendelken , maiden name Barbara Ute Brau (born August 17, 1955 in Schwanewede ) is a German children's and youth author and crime writer .

Life

Barbara Wendelken, née Brau, grew up as the daughter of master electrician Diedrich Brau and his wife Ursula, née Engfer, with a sister in Schwanewede. After attending elementary, secondary and higher commercial schools, she trained as a pediatric nurse from 1973 to 1976. She worked in this profession until 1995, but began to write in the early 1990s. After a short "interlude" in a bookstore, she realized her dream of becoming a freelance writer and writer. With The King of the Herons , she published her first children's book in 1993, which was followed by other short stories, novels, children's and picture books.

Barbara Wendelken has been married to the teacher Rino Wendelken since 1974 and has three grown children, Benjamin, Inka and Marike.

Wendelken is a member of the " Association of German Writers " (VS) and of the "Authors' group of German-language crime literature - The Syndicate " . In 1998 the Syndicate appointed her to the jury of the Friedrich Glauser Prize ; As a part-time jury secretary, she organized the Hansjörg Martin Prize , the syndicate's award for the best German-language child and youth crime fiction, between 1999 and 2011 .

Barbara Wendelken now lives with her family in the East Frisian Moormerland .
