The Barnitz is an almost 20 km long tributary of the best in Schleswig-Holstein ( Germany ).

course

It rises in the eastern district Stormarn just south of stumps near the peasantry Eichede-Krühe. In the area of Stubben a brook flows into it and at Groß Boden it takes the water of two other brooks. Mainly flowing in a north-westerly direction, it is then crossed by the A1 , then passes Pölitz and flows into the Beste directly south of Bad Oldesloe .

The name of the river is of West Slavic origin and literally translated means as much as birch floodplain , which indicates a lowland river with birch trees. A connection with the town of Barnitz is conceivable, not least due to the spatial proximity, but has not been proven.

Others

Today it is assumed that the Barnitz is a section of the Limes Saxoniae established in 810 .
