Barry Christopher Knestout (born June 11, 1962 in Cheverly , Maryland ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Richmond .

Life

Barry Christopher Knestout received on June 24 in 1989 by the Archbishop of Washington, James Aloysius Cardinal Hickey , the sacrament of Holy Orders . After years of chaplaincy, he was Archiepiscopal Secretary to Cardinal Hickey and Cardinal McCarrick Theodore Edgar from 1994 to 2004 . In 1999 Pope John Paul II appointed him a papal honorary chaplain with the title of Monsignor .

Knestout was one of the chairs of the preparatory committee for the visit of Pope Benedict XVI. in Washington in April 2008. The Pope awarded him the Cross of Honor Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice for his services to the organization of the visit .

On November 18, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the titular of Leavenworth and auxiliary bishop in Washington . The Archbishop of Washington, Donald Wuerl , donated him episcopal ordination on December 29 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in Washington, Francisco González Valer SF and Martin David Holley .

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Richmond on December 5, 2017 . The inauguration took place on January 12 of the following year.

Knestout is a member of the Knights of Columbus , the Order of Malta and the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
