Barry Forgie

Richard Barry Forgie (born May 28, 1939 in Peterborough ) is a British composer , jazz musician ( trombone ) and orchestra conductor.

Live and act

Forgie learned the trombone when he was ten and led his own jazz group when he was 16. He studied music at the University of Wales . He soon got regular BBC broadcasts with his own band.

Forgie worked in the 1970s as an arranger / composer and as a musical associate on several feature films. In 1971 he presented the album Combustion with his own orchestra . He also worked as a conductor in London's West End . Since 1977 he has led the BBC Big Band regularly. He transcribed big band classics from the early Ellington to the swing era to Gerry Mulligan and Buddy Rich for the band's repertoire. In 1992 he toured North America with the formation and George Shearing . He led the band at numerous radio concerts with artists as diverse as Van Morrison , Ken Peplowski and Cybill Shepherd . As an arranger and conductor he also worked with Arturo Sandoval , Clark Terry , Cleo Laine , Marlene VerPlanck and the King's Singers .
