Barry Smith (born March 8, 1940 ) is a retired Australian motorcycle racer .

Live and act

Smith came to Europe in 1963 to take part in the then much more popular road races . There competed in the small displacement classes. The FIM - Motorcycle World Championship , he played in 1965 in the 250 cc class Bultaco and was able to at the French Grand Prix in third place behind Phil Read and Bruce Beale on the podium. In the 50s he drove a World Championship point on Derbi in the same season. In the 1968 season Smith was able to work his way up to third in the overall standings in the 50 cc World Championship thanks to his victory at the Isle of Man TT . In the following year he won with victories in the Dutch TT at the Dutch Assen and at the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps this placement in the overall standings again.

From 1971, Barry Smith paused as a racing driver for seven years. In the emerging Formula TT category , he became active again as an active driver from 1979 and also took part in World Championship races again. In the same year he won another Grand Prix run in a 125cc Morbidelli at the Belgian Grand Prix.

In Formula TT, Smith became world champion in the F3 class on a Yamaha in 1979 and 1981 before finally retiring from active racing in 1981.

Barry Smith now lives in Berwick ( Victoria ) with his wife Norma . Since the end of his driving career, he has been selling motorcycle models, which he also sells as a flying dealer at Australian racing events. In addition, he founded an online retailer in 1996 that sells print products such as posters for everything to do with professional sports. In 2014 he was inducted into the AMCN Motorcycle Hall of Fame .
