Bartolomeo Cardinal Bacilieri (born March 28, 1842 in Breonio , Province of Verona , Italy , † February 14, 1923 in Verona ) was Bishop of Verona from 1888 to 1923 .

Life

Bartolomeo Bacilieri studied Catholic Theology at the Episcopal Seminary in Verona and a doctorate then the Capranica College in Rome for doctor of theology. After his ordination , which he received in Rome, he was initially a lecturer at the seminary in Verona and was also its rain from 1868 to 1888 . In addition, he was from 1878 until his appointment as bishop canon of the Cathedral of Verona.

On June 1, 1888, Pope Leo XIII appointed him . as titular bishop of Nisa in Lycia and coadjutor bishop in the diocese of Verona. He was ordained episcopal by Cardinal Secretary of State Mariano Rampolla del Tindaro on June 10 of the same year in the chapel of the Collegio Capranica in Rome; Co- consecrators were Alessandro Sanminiatelli Zabarella and Vincenzo Vannutelli . On March 12, 1900, he succeeded the late Luigi di Canossa on the Episcopal See in Verona.

Pope Leo XIII. created him cardinal in the consistory of April 15, 1901 and shortly thereafter appointed him cardinal priest with the titular church of San Bartolomeo all'Isola .

Cardinal Bacilieri took part in the 1903 conclave elected by Pope Pius X , as well as in the 1914 conclave elected by Pope Benedict XV. elected, and at the conclave of 1922 , Pope Pius XI. lifted up on the chair Petri.
