Basil Mramba

Basil Pesambili Mramba (born May 15, 1940 ) is a Tanzanian politician of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), who was minister several times.

Life

Mramba attended from 1948 to 1949 the Kwaleina Bush School Primary , 1951-1952, the Shimbi Primary School , from 1953 to 1954 the Mkuu Mission Primary School and from 1955 to 1960 the Umbwe Secondary School before he 1961-1962 his secondary education at the Graduated from Tabora Boys Secondary School . In 1963 he began an undergraduate degree in political science at Makerere University in Uganda , which he completed in 1967 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Political Science). In addition, between 1964 and 1969 he was assistant to the management at Williamson Diamond Mwadui . He completed another postgraduate course in management at the City, University of London in 1968 with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He was then head of the personnel development department of the National Development Corporation ( NDC ) between 1969 and 1972 and, during this time, also completed a management course at Harvard Business School in 1971 . He then served as general director of the small business organization SIDO (Small Scale Industries Organization) between 1973 and 1980 .

In 1980 Mramba was elected member of the National Assembly for the CCM Revolutionary Party ( Chama Cha Mapinduzi ) and represented the Rombo constituency in this until 2010 . He was in the cabinet of Prime Minister Edward Moringe Sokoine between 1983 and 1984 Minister of Industry and in the subsequent cabinet of Prime Minister Salim Ahmed Salim and Joseph Sinde Warioba from 1984 to 1987 Minister of Industry and Trade. In 1995 he was again briefly Minister for Industry and Trade and Minister for Labor and Youth Development in the cabinet of Prime Minister Cleopa David Msuya , and then between 1995 and 2000 Regional Commissioner for the Mbeya Region .

As part of a cabinet reshuffle, Mramba took over on November 23, 2000 in the cabinet of Frederick Sumaye as successor to Daniel Yona the post of finance minister, while Philemon Sarungi was the new defense minister. He held the post of finance minister until the government reshuffle announced by President Jakaya Kikwete on January 4, 2006, after which Zakia Meghji became his successor. At the same time, other key positions in the cabinet were filled with Foreign Minister Asha-Rose Migiro , Defense Minister Juma Kapuya and Interior Minister John Chiligati . In January 2006, he himself took over the post of Minister for Infrastructure Development for a short time, before replacing Nazir Karamagi as Minister for Industry, Trade and Marketing on October 15, 2006 . He held this ministerial office until his replacement by Mary Nagu on February 13, 2008.
