Basilio is a town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Basilio is the most populous town in the canton of Peji in the municipality of La Guardia in the province of Andrés Ibáñez . The municipality lies at an altitude of 500  m in the wide alluvial plain created by the Río Piraí in the west and the Río Grande in the east. In a northerly direction at a distance of about 20 km is the Lomas de Arena dune area, a shifting dune and lake area designated by the IUCN as a landscape protection area.

Basilio is east of the Cordillera Oriental on the edge of the Bolivian lowlands. The region has a semi- humid, humid tropical climate with low day and night fluctuations in temperatures.

From Santa Cruz, the paved national road Ruta 9 leads south via Villa Simón Bolívar to Basilio and further south via Mora , Cabezas , Abapó , Ipitá and Villamontes to Yacuiba on the Bolivian border with Argentina .

Basilio is also a stop on the railway line between Santa Cruz and Yacuiba, the travel time from Basilio to Santa Cruz is about an hour and a half.
