Bastian Giegerich

Bastian Giegerich (* 1976 in Bremen ) is a German political scientist and expert on security policy .

Life

Giegerich studied political science at the University of Potsdam from 1996 to 2001 . With a Fulbright scholarship he went to the USA in 1999/2000, where he studied at the University of Maryland, College Park in College Park, Maryland. He was also a Research Associate at the National Defense University in Washington, DC in 2000 and a project manager at the Aspen Institute in Berlin from 2000 to 2002 . He received his Ph.D. in 2005 from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). in International Relations and taught from 2003 to 2009 at the Department for International Relations there.

In 2005/06 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Compagnia di San Paolo, the Stiftelsen Riksbanken jubileumsfond and the Volkswagen Foundation . From 2005 to 2010 he was Research Fellow for European Security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London. From 2010 to 2012 he was a research assistant at the Social Science Institute of the Bundeswehr (SOWI) in Strausberg. In 2011/12 he was a fellow of the New Responsibility Foundation and worked on a project basis.

He has been a Consulting Senior Fellow for European Security at the IISS since 2010 and has been a consultant in the Politics department of the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in Berlin since 2012 .

Giegerich was a board member of the Clausewitz network for strategic studies . He contributed to the Military Balance and Strategic Survey of the IISS and published in u. a. From Politics and Contemporary History , Security and Peace and Security Studies .
