Batrachedra is a genus of butterflies from the family of batrachedridae .

features

The moths are smoothly scaled . The antennae reach 4/5 of the fore wing length and have a short base segment. The labial palps are elongated. The second segment sometimes appears thickened by scales protruding from the underside. The third segment is slightly shorter than the second and angled upwards. The forewings are narrow, oblong or oblong lanceolate and have four radial arteries . The representatives of the genus Batrachedra are also often placed in the genus Coleophora .

In the males, the uncus is long and pointed, sometimes hook-shaped. The tegumen is large and tapers distally . The Gnathos is large, just as long as the Uncus and spatulate. The blades are long and simple, distally rounded or pointed. The saccule is well developed. The anellus lobes are distinctive and have a bulbous to spatula-like shape. The vinculum is narrow. The shape of the Aedeagus ranges from short and compact to very long and slender. Cornuti are present or may be absent.

In females, the apophyses are about the same length. The anterior apophyses are often forked at the base. The antrum is funnel-shaped at the base. The ductus bursae is narrow and partly provided with needles on the inside. The corpus bursae is egg-shaped or oval and often has a large, plate-shaped signum covered with needles.

distribution

Batrachedra is a species-rich genus with worldwide distribution. Most of the representatives are native to the Nearctic , Neotropical and Oriental regions.

biology

The caterpillars are miners or live in seeds, kittens or buds. One species - Batrachedra parvulipunctella - lives symbiotically in scale insect colonies of Aclerda berlesei or other species.

Systematics

In Europe, the genus is represented by three species.
