Beat Sterchi
Beat Sterchi (born December 12, 1949 in Bern ) is a Swiss writer .
Life
After attending primary and secondary school, Beat Sterchi did an apprenticeship as a butcher . In 1970 he emigrated to Canada , where he carried out various activities and also attended evening school . He then completed his English studies at the University of British Columbia near Vancouver with a bachelor's degree . In 1975 he went to Honduras , where he worked as an English teacher in the capital Tegucigalpa until 1977 and published his first poems in English and German. From 1977 to 1982 he studied at McGill University in Montréal and worked as a teacher at the Goethe Institute there . Sterchi became known in 1983 with his novel Blösch , for which he received several awards. From 1984 to 1994 Sterchi lived as a freelance writer in a Spanish village near Valencia . His current residence is Bern . Sterchi has been a member of the author group Bern is everywhere since 2003 .
The Swiss Literary Archives of the Swiss National Library acquired Beat Sterchi's archive in 2008. In particular, it includes the work documentation for the novel Blösch .
