Beate West-Leuer

Beate West-Leuer (* 1951 in Dortmund ) is a German educator , psychological psychotherapist , consultant , coach and supervisor .

Live and act

West-Leuer studied English , American and History at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz from 1971 to 1976. From 1974 to 1975 West-Leuer was part of the German-American exchange program at Lehigh University in Bethlehem (Pennsylvania) . 1975 to 1977 she completed courses in philosophy at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore . In Atlanta , from 1977 to 1978, she was Director of Instruction for the continuing education of the lecturers at Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamics . As a student councilorshe taught English and social studies with history at a college school. She graduated from a Gestalt therapy and a deep psychological training as a psychotherapist, a DGSv -approved continuing education and training as a supervisor and Lehrsupervisorin and a training as a coach and as a senior coach from DBVC recognized. Her doctorate took place at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg on a topic of psychoanalytic pedagogy and group dynamics .

West-Leuer was a member of the University Council at the Westphalian University from 2012 to 2017 . She is a lecturer at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf , lecturer at the International Psychoanalytic University Berlin and freelance in her own consulting practice. She is a founding member and chairwoman of the institute "Psychodynamic Organizational Development + Personnel Management Düsseldorf" (POP) and a member of the board of the "Academy for Psychoanalysis and Psychodynamics Düsseldorf" in cooperation with the University of Düsseldorf.

As deputy chairwoman of the academy, she is the moderator of the event “Psychoanalysis and Film”, which takes place once a month in the Black Box, the cinema in the Düsseldorf Film Museum. West-Leuer is also editor and co-editor of the magazine “Agora. Düsseldorf Contributions to Psychoanalysis and Society ”. She was also recognized by the media as an expert on various topics such as an interpretation of the 10th Commandment ( Rheinische Post ), initiation rituals , confessions and the devil in US series ( WDR 3 and WDR 5 ). She also supports film projects by young directors, such as the realization of the film “Tomo” about a humanoid house robot .

research

Own research relates to psychoanalysis in its applications. The focus is on qualitative projects to research leadership styles and psychodynamic counseling in contrast to other counseling concepts and in contrast to therapy. Another field of activity is document analyzes in the context of film analyzes of contemporary feature films, which are understood as objectivations of the psyche of their creators and used as testimonials and sources to explain human behavior. Dr. West-Leuer regularly gives lectures on various psychoanalytic topics. Internationally she has presented her scientifically based concept of psychodynamic counseling several times.
